  2. Blogger is not a journalist.this is because journalist don't write based on their emotion, based on what they want, they write based on what they being told to write to and they get paid by doing so which is a totally different as they can write whatever they want , expressing themselves without having to worried about others...

blogger can't also have the same status with journalist because they are not journalist!!they can;t just simply said that.

who give them right to do that. do they have like proof that says he/she is journalist. i know in some free country like america , they are free to do whatever they want but think again if that what do you think than even someone anoynomous in pyjamas can also sent random crap to blog and call themselves journalist.

doesn't mean your blog is famous and well-known you going to be called as journalist.the word blogger was created for people who writes on blog and the word journalist is for people who write A journalist collects and disseminates information about current events, people, trends, and issues which they usually write in magazine, radio, television and official website.

  3. In my opinion, Bloggers are not Journalists.

I have came across with lots of blogs by many people. It seems that Bloggers misuse the understanding of blog as they turn it as a personal diary.
Bloggers tend to post a lot, regarding their daily activities, schools or tuition. Some even took blogs as a place to voice their dissatisfactory. Not to mention, the poor usage of English language.

Other than that, Journalists are people who practice the profession of journalism. They keep journals or record daily events. They even do researches before they write journals.

    Thus, Bloggers are not Journalists.

  5. Bloggers are people who keeps a Web log (also know as "blog") or publish an online diary.

Bloggers tend to write things without doing any research on the topic, and also tend to write things based on their feelings.

Besides that, they don't really care whether what they are writing is unlawful or not, because blogs are personal.

A journalist, on the other hand, is a person who practices the occupation or profession of journalism.

A journalist would usually research on the topic they are writing on, either to bring about the truth to the people, or to manipulate the knowledge for their own purposes.

But, journalists can keep blogs, too.

    My conclusion:

    Bloggers aren't journalists,
    but journalists can be bloggers.

  6. logs, as stated as an example in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog, a blog is: "....is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video."

Where as, a journalist is a profession where he/she is is expected to collect, deliver and disseminate information about current events, people, trends, and issues unbiased to inform and educate the public.

Bloggers are NOT journalists. A huge majority of blogs with exception to a few are not trustworthy. Why? This is due to bloggers having the freedom to deliver news unchecked. Personal views and inaccurate information from sources or even interpretations from the bloggers themselves cloud the "news" they produce.

Journalists have to adhere to specific guidelines where accurate information is the objective. Sleepless nights, overtime and over stressed journalists are the norm in their profession. This is due to before they produce a piece of news to give to the public, a whole list of sources and information gathered needs to be checked and double checked to ensure accuracy.

Bloggers pursue stories that interests them.
Journalists pursue stories that intrests everyone else.

However as a side note, if a blogger does have a positive agenda exposing problems and bringing critical issues to light, they are still NOT journalists. However, they do deserve some degree of protection of their sources. This is to ensure that we do not exist in a society where the fear of losing your job is weighted against the welfare of others.

  8. @Looi

I agree with Looi, as many bloggers who constantly post random updates on their blog have impression that the world cares to know their every activity. In cases like these, these bloggers are far from journalists and are more like self obsessed paparazzi.

    @ Farah
This is indeed true. Any Tom, Dick, and Harry could set up a blog and call themselves a blogger. If bloggers are journalists then it would indicate ANYONE, can be a journalist. Be it spreading false news or altered news to fit a certain agenda, it can all be done by all "pseudo-journalists". We have certain amount of faith in the news publication system we have today because we have trust in the accuracy of the information we are consuming. Bloggers violate that faith.

  9. Bloggers should not be considered as Journalists. This is because majority of the the time bloggers write about issues or topics without regard to true facts.Bloggers tend to write about their own feelings and opinions about issues. In contrast, Journalists are required to research and seek out facts about an issue and report them without being biased.

Other than that, most of the time things written by bloggers tend to contain false or unconfirmed information. This easily leads to a wide spread of false information to the readers.Anyone with access to the internet can easily just set up accounts on websites and become a blogger,so it has become to easy for them to make statements and claim that is the truth without any evidence whatsoever.
Journalist are on the other hand, professionals who take their job seriously. The strive to find out the truth and facts about issues to report and bring them to the knowledge of the public.

  10. @Looi I agree with you that the the only people who should be called Journalists are the people who practice the profession of journalism.

@Goku I also agree that bloggers tend to write about things that they have done no research on because they feel that a blog allows them to express their own personal opinions

  11. Bloggers are definitely not journalist in my opinion. Bloggers is where mostly people intend to write things that related to their own lifestyle. Mostly they wrote with their own feelings within freely and post it or publish in the web where they can share it with other people.Based in my observation bloggers are just like almost same as a diary of someone where they wrote it and publish it in anytime as they want.

Besides that, journalist are people who get paying and its their job to write about the fact or real source from someone that they have been interview. The company also pay for all the journalist who have the best source or the record of someone where they have been interview with high class people or very important person. Unfortunately, most of them are intend to write that mostly twisting the stories up and making up on their own story as well so that they can attract people more by making an interesting stories and that is the negatively part about journalist.

  12. @Looi I agreed that it is true that bloggers are not journalist. The bloggers are definitely like a person diary where they write with thheir own feeling in it and also where they voices within freely in the web.

@Farah I agree with you that journalist don't write based on their emotion and it's definitely different from the bloggers. They were being told to write and also got paid by the company, and mostly they wrote that based on their research by interviewing with someone and they wrote about it.

  13. I don't think that bloggers are journalist. as the link said, journalist can't actually write whatever they want or feel because they need facts to prove what they said.

Bloggers on the other hand just write down whatever they want regardless if its true or not. They're the one that's the source of a certain rumor if whatever articles that they wrote got the reader's attention. They don't need proof. It's just personal.

It's rather sad seeing how bloggers abuse this simple confusion to type down whatever they want and use the excuse that they deserve the same privilege as journalist whenever they get into a pinch.

  14. @Aaron

Bloggers pursue stories that interests them.
Journalists pursue stories that intrests everyone else.

Ah, it makes more sense when you put it that way. And I agree that they deserve some kind of protection, even if they are just bloggers. Imagine if the issue comes back to ruins your life.

    @ Aan
I agree. That is one more way to differentiate blogger and journalist. They take a story and twist it up to a degree that it becomes something of completely the opposite of what really happened. And its a pity that they do it for the pay.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree with everyone here.Blogger is not a journalist.

To my opinion, Journalist is a very important job. They have to deliver facts that have been researched thoroughly.Whereas, most blogger writes about the fact based on their opinion. There are millions of blogs out there, and if every and single one of them is considered as a journalist then this would cause a lot of problems in the future.Misleading facts will definitely occur.

Journalist is payed to find a story for us all while a blogger finds story that interest them the most. So, blogger could never have the same status as a journalist. Some people even went to school for a major in journalism and they payed thousands for it therefore how can a person without a degree in journalism suddenly opens a blog, and write out some random facts that they received from the internet or other sources is considered a journalist?

Journalism is hard work. It required amount of time and they have to interview a lot of people in order to get the facts straight. While a blogger could just sits in front of the computer with an internet line and just "researched" it online.

However, a blog is a good place for a person to express themselves. It gives them freedom to write about their feelings and opinion. Not only that, a blog also helps the voices of the people to be heard by the country, showing that we are not just a bunch of people who would just follows the rule that is made by the upper people without thinking for ourselves.

  16. @ Farah : I definitely agree. Famous blog, does not mean that they are a journalist. It is because they write stories that interest everyone. That is the reason for them to be well-known.

@ Kyress : Yes, it is quite sad actually to see these bloggers using the excuses to get the same privileges as a journalist.Journalist had been working for years to get to where they are now and I think it is inappropriate for a common blogger to demand the same privilege as a journalist.

  17. @ Aaron:

It is true that bloggers only put up stories that triggers their intrest, while journalists write about what other people are interested in, even though they have no particular attraction to the topic itself.

I agree on your stress where bloggers would usually post their stories without having done any research.

    ******
    @ Rohana:

I'm impressed that you gave a good side to bloggers as well!

Also, I strongly agree that blogs help people express their feelings and opinions.

Blogs doesn't have to be about headline issues of the world.
In fact, most of the time, it's just about our own simple problems, or fun experiences in our everyday life.

    Blogs are like online diaries.

If you don't like it, don't read it. It's simple as that.

I agree that Journalists deliver facts that have been researched thoroughly. As Bloggers tend to deliver facts that are based on their point of view. Of course things like misleading facts will definitely occur.

    @ Marissa

The fact that anyone with access to the internet can easily just set up accounts on websites and become a blogger, is true. And this does not mean they are journalists as they make statements and claim that is the truth without any prove. It is still like personal point of view to me.
