  1. As a human being, I often take the first information i receive as true.

Be it on a newspaper, the television, a book, or on the internet.

If i happen to read an article over the internet, i would believe in it.
However, if i did have any doubts about it, i would research about the topic.

If the information was not from a reliable source, i will never believe in it (at least, not totally). I will always refer to a reliable source for information or articles.

What people write over the internet may not always be true; and sometimes, they purposely want to confuse other people for their own benefits.

People should be thought not to be too gullible into believing anything they read over the internet, to be safe, and to avoid confusion.

  4. Do I often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

    No.

I do not simply digest facts on the internet. Some are made up stories or pranks by some uncivilized people to cause arguments between two parties and to create fear in the community. False information will cause a lot of consequences and damages.
Websites like Facebook, Twitter or Blogs are filled with information that are not based on facts so it is hard to believe what's right or wrong.

For making sure of an information, I will refer to few sources like; newspaper, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) or Cable News Network (CNN)just to confirm the truth. Sometimes, it's hard to believe as exaggeration occur in every news just to attract readers.

Thus, we as readers must be smart so that we don't get caught in some false information made up by some inconsiderate people.

  5. It depends on the source really. If you go to site like utusanmalaysia.com, we know that the news is-regardless to logical or not- is true.

For me, the more official and authentic the news look and sound, the more I would believe it. Call me gullible but that's how I am. However if it's from some sort of blog or unreliable sources, then I would go on google and search whether or not that piece of information is true or false.

  6. Well for me,It is no because everytime I read something from the newspaper or the internet, I would wonder whether the story thats been told is true or not.I realized a lot of journalist nowadays ,including bloggers loves exaggerate the stories so that it could interest people more to read it.The information given maybe true and maybe not,so when this happens I would find other source that is also writing the same story. However, most of the time, I would just read the stories, think about it and end up ignoring it.

Most of the stories on the newspaper,I believe not all of them are true. I believe that half of it is true and the other half of the story is to make money. Therefore, people should not believe on everything they hear, read or listen unless they have a concrete proof about it.

  8. @ Rohana

It's true that nowadays journalists exaggerate a lot... Sometimes too much.

And yes, the reason is money.

Who wouldn't want to make money?
And the quickest way for a journalist to make money is to spice up stories, even if it's twisting the real one up.

    @ Amirah

The best way really is to look over the topic, and research it as mch as we can.

    But sometimes I wonder:
The research IS someone else's work as well.
Does that mean it is unreliable, too?

Even so, I still come to the conclusion that the reliable sources always, Always have the right information that I'm looking for.

There is a limit to how much one can do, I guess.

  10. Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

actually it depends on which sites you go.for me website like mmls itself can be trusted and some website like forum most likely can't be trusted as we do not know where the source coming from ? is it true or not no one knows.

usually most information that can be trusted are always come with supporting details , source or evidence and vice versa. based on my experience , usually i wouldn't trust if i saw it on random forum or random blog unless i read or saw the same thing from other diff site, blog or forum then i'll trust it.

  12. To be honest, yes most of the time I do take most of the information i get of the internet as the truth. However i usually search for my information on websites that I trust so I feel pretty confident about the information I am getting.
On the other hand, if there is a time when I do not feel sure about the information im receiving I would always go and research more about it instead of just listening to what people have mentioned on the internet.Usually I would like to give people the benefit of the doubt but when it comes to the internet you can never be too sure.

@Rohana, I also agree with you that nowadays news and information on the internet are usually exaggerated by their reporters

  15. As a human, I do intends to believe it a little about information that first I received, but it depends on what kind of information is about. Some of the information are can be trusted such as CIMB Click where they have forums and info transaction money process that can be trusted.Besides that MMLS where the forum that I mostly trusted, its the forum where usually guide me when I'm in the campus.

There are lots of sites that mostly of it are not truth and all the source information that they obtain are not 100% are truth.Mostly a sites or forums about celebrity, gossiping, so that they can spread all around to make people believe it for their own entertainment and benefits.

People shouldn't believe or trust easily when they happened firstly received any kind of information.False information mostly cause a lot of chaos around the global, mostly in politics sections.

  16. @Goku: Yes Goku I'll also do exactly as you suggest, doing the research and background first about the info is the best step, so we doubt whether to believe or not to believe the information that we received.

@Farah: Exactly as what you say Farah,if the information that is true mostly they have strong evidence, source and strong supporting details, so people can be avoided from any confusion that they intends to believe it.

It is true whenever you do not feel sure about the information that you are receiving it is better to go do research about it because information from the internet can give you doubts.

    @ A'an
It is true that we should not accept facts from internet easily. As readers we should be aware of what's right or wrong as false information will lead to chaos around the global despite which party that involve.

  20. Information coming from the birth place of the flying spaghetti monster and extremely paranoid conspiracy theorists, i always doubt the news or articles i read off the internet. In fact there is even doubt to whether it is even truly an "article" or "news" to begin with if it is not from a trusted source. So No, i never take what is on the internet as truth at face value. However i acknowledge the validity of the information if it is from sites like National Geographic, MSN, or some credible resource.

Research does help to verify if what we are reading is fact or fiction, however can we fully believe the sources that we use to compare with are fully correct? With this in mind, how can any news be legitimate?

Returning to the question, yes, i do wonder if the things i read off the internet are valid. However we have to eventually draw the line on what we can believe is true and what we can be suspicious of. It is dangerous to assume that "not one of us are smarter the all of us". Even if an article or piece of news has a large number of supporting sources it still does not mean it is true.

If there is a fictional research paper about how "Unicorns Exists", and several articles with apparent scientific proof that supports its claims were to surface. It sounds ridiculous right?

Now change the title to something more serious. "Global warming is caused by CO2 emissions in Asian countries." Malaysia is listed as the worst offender. Again, several articles with apparent scientific proof supports it.

    Truth? You decide.

  21. @ Maris & Farah

Yes, you are both right that what we read off the internet needs solid proof that it is true. But not stopping there we must also apply our logic to identify if the ideas behind the information are sound.

    @ Rohana

Not all the information from the internet is false, and even more of them are not true. However it is also worth mentioning to always check who the author of the article/news is. That is the most simplest way of identifying if we are bring fooled.
